Santiago was supposed to be a layover, but I missed my connection and ended up staying for two days.  Not a big deal, but I wasn't expecting to spend much time in a fairly cosmopolitan city, and I regretted having to dress in long underwear and hiking boots.  Imagine showing up in San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf dressed as a pirate, and you might have some sense of how I felt.
